Chocolate Peppermint Balls

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1 package devil's food or fudge cake mix
  • sweet cocoa mix or confectioner's sugar

Preheat oven to 375°.

Cream shortening with egg and peppermint extract until fluffy. Add cake mix. Work mixture with spoon, pastry blender or fingers until it is like pastry dough.

Form into small balls using about 1 teaspoon dough for each. Place 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet.

Bake 10 minutes.

Roll warm cookies in cocoa or sugar.
