Kahlua under the Sink

I always thought of this as my father's recipe, but according to the card, my mother's cousin Averil Jean wrote it out when she was visiting in May 1969. This recipe is part of family legend. Can't say I recommend the result.

• 2 cup water
• 2 cup cheap brandy
• 4 cup water [Yes, water is listed twice. I think 6 cups is right.]
• 2 ounces instant coffee
• 1 vanilla bean

Boil water.
Mix sugar and coffee.
Add boiling water.
Cool; add brandy. Pour into a half-gallon glass wine bottle.
Drop in vanilla bean.
Let stand 30 days under the sink.
