Noodle Casserole

Millie Meinhold, maybe

This is from the Extension office, and Millie was big on economical casseroles, so I'm guessing it's hers.

"Noodles" likely means egg noodles, as in Aunt Margaret's Layered Noodle Bake. "Store cheese" could be anything, in this case likely sliced American cheese. Classic middle 20th-century suburban delicacy! Those who turn up their noses at condensed soup hot dishes can make Mrs. Bottone's lasagne instead.

  • 1 pound hamburger, browned with
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 pound noodles, cooked
  • 1 can condensed tomato soup
  • 4 medium size onions, sliced
  • 1/4 pound store cheese

Grease a 1 1/2 to 2-quart casserole dish. Spread half the sliced onions on the bottom, then half the hamburger, then half the noodles. Repeat. Pour the soup over it all. Cover the top with cheese. Bake at 375°F for 45 minutes.
